Forum Projects – updated July 2006

1.             Communications

The village correspondent is David Armitt who will be pleased to report on your group’s public meetings or activities.  Ring him on 01304 831 834 and David will write up your news for the weekly columns in the local papers.

The Forum web-site and e-mail address continues to be developed by Ray Greensmith and aims to make communication easier for residents.

2.             Community Magazine

Residents are encouraged to send in copy for the community magazine to improve the circulation of views and news.  The deadline each month is published in the front of the magazine and is usually the second Monday of the month.

The Forum is looking to distribute a supplementary newsletter with contact information for all local groups.

3.             Raising Funds

Eileen Rowbotham, the District County Councilor, and Wendy Hansell, Dover District Councilor, are able to advise about grants that may be available for local projects. Groups will need a bank account and a constitution to apply for grants and Heidi Golden, DDC Community Worker, can provide assistance.

4.             Improving Health Provision

This campaign continues with the East Kent Primary Care Trust asking for more information to inform their decision from residents.  A questionnaire will be sent to all residents in the Summer.

5.             Community Family Day

The success of this day on Sunday 18 June 2006 showed that local groups could benefit from working together on events.  A full report will be published after the next Forum meeting on July 14 where a decision on a steering group for next year will be taken.

6.         Empty Warehousing at Pike Road Industrial Estate

We could explore possibility of using empty warehouse space for ‘leisure’ facility; explore possibility of ‘paintballing’ for the youth.

7.             Sweetbriar Meadow

Working with the Countryside Project – would it be popular to set up a project to develop this area for recreation and nature conservation.  It could include the existing use, develop allotment areas again and put in other recreational projects.

8.         Local Development Framework

The public consultation on the land that has been submitted has been delayed until September 2006.  The Parish Council has submitted the Adelaide Road Play area and the site of the old allotments in Elvington as land suitable for housing development and also Monkton Land for inclusion in the Eythorne village boundary.

Ongoing Health Provision Campaign

Health Issues – Update Nov 2005

Dear Resident,

As you may know, the Forum has been conducting a campaign to improve health services in the community.  We would like to take this opportunity to update you on what has been achieved and ask for your views to guide our future activities.

v     In February this year, we wrote to the Chief Executive of the East Kent Coastal Primary Care Trust (PCT) to arrange a meeting to discuss our concerns about the lack of surgery provision in Elvington and to request that new clinics be held in the Elvington Community Centre.

v     In the June Community Magazine, we asked for residents to write letters saying what health issues are important to them and these were very helpful in our meeting with the PCT in August.  With support from our County and District Councillors and our Health Visitor, Tracy Donovan, we had very useful discussions.

v     In September, the Trust agreed to look at surgery provision and health clinics and they assigned a Health Promotions Officer (Sergio Moura) to work with the community.

v     In October, we asked the Parish Council to back our campaign and were pleased that they gave a positive response.

Having reached this stage, we need to continue building a wider campaign to achieve an improved health service for the local area.  We want to inform as many people as possible about the aims and to get your support for positive action from the PCT.  We understand that health resources are scarce but believe that the best use of these resources is for a local service for all local residents.  This is where you can help.

v     We would like more feed back on what you would like to see in terms of health provision.

v     To keep everyone informed of the campaign progress, we would like to build a database of names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of everyone that wants to be kept in touch.

v     If you would like to be on our contact list, or help with our campaign, please phone Christine Haggart on 007795 205 196 (weekdays) or speak to Tracy Donovan, Wilfred Rogers or John Ryan or send an email to
